Guided tours and tastings in the medieval castle of Valnerina
The hamlet of Rocchetta, in the upper part of the municipality of Cerreto di Spoleto (province of Perugia), is dominated by a 13th-century medieval castle, built at 793 meters above sea level in a strategic position above the valley. With its keep and watchtower, once also called Rocca Oddi, the castle remained loyal to Spoleto during the revolt of the Castles of Valnerina, resisting in 1523. It is in this setting that the event Discovering Rocchetta Castle comes to life every summer.
The event, organized by the Pro Loco Rocchetta Association, offers guided tours of the fortress, cultural paths through the medieval history of the village, and tastings of Umbrian food and wine traditions. A way to bridge the past and present and experience the castle not as a mere ruin, but as a living place of community memory.
Compared to the more crowded events of the Cerreto summer, 'Discovering Rocchetta Castle' retains a small and authentic dimension, ideal for those seeking an experience off the beaten tourist track, immersed in the Apennine landscape of Valnerina and among the stones of a village that has spanned the centuries.
The event is traditionally held on August 10th and 11th in the hamlet of Rocchetta, in Cerreto di Spoleto.
'Discovering Rocchetta Castle' is also expected in the summer of 2026, on the traditional dates of August 10th and 11th, in the hamlet of Rocchetta in Cerreto di Spoleto. The Pro Loco Rocchetta Association will again offer guided tours of the medieval castle, cultural paths through the history of the village, and tastings of Umbrian food and wine traditions.
Times and organizational details will be announced by Pro Loco in the weeks preceding the event.
Program coming soon. The usual structure includes, on August 10th and 11th, guided tours of Rocchetta Castle, cultural paths on the medieval history of the village, and tastings of Umbrian food and wine traditions.
