About Corri San Giorgio

Every late August, the streets of San Giorgio La Molara, in the upper Sannio region near Benevento, transform into a racecourse. Corri San Giorgio - Idnamic Trophy is a road race organized by the local Pro Loco: a hilly, undulating route that climbs from the historic center toward the lake before returning to town for a final steep ascent to the castle. It is a popular event, open to both amateurs and running clubs, that wraps up the summer season with around a hundred runners at the starting line and squares filled with spectators.

Corri San Giorgio - Idnamic Trophy: The race of the upper Sannio

In late August, as the day's heat begins to wane, the center of San Giorgio La Molara fills with runners. The Corri San Giorgio - Idnamic Trophy road race is one of the most anticipated sporting events in this town in the Province of Benevento, Campania, on the edge of the Fortore valley. It is not a massive event; it typically draws around a hundred participants, mostly amateurs and members of running clubs from Sannio, Irpinia, and nearby Molise. Yet, it is precisely this intimate scale that gives it the character of a village festival in running shoes.

The route: Kilometers of ups and downs

The course is the race's true signature. In the 2025 edition, the start was at Piazza Croce, in the heart of the town, with the climb beginning almost immediately: a few meters to catch your breath before gaining elevation, followed by long, rolling plateaus leading toward Lake San Giorgio, one of the Fortore lakes. From the lake, the route heads back toward the town on a descent, before the final ramp—the most demanding—which climbs up to the castle and the finish line at Piazza Roma. In total, it covers about 14 kilometers of "constant ups and downs," as described by those who have run it: a course that rewards those who know how to pace themselves more than those with just fast legs. In previous editions, the distance was shorter, around 9 kilometers, starting from Via Airella.

The Idnamic Trophy

The full name of the event refers to the trophy provided by the main sponsor, the company Idnamic, which supports various local sporting initiatives, from running to the summer soccer tournament. The Idnamic Trophy is awarded to the top overall male and female finishers and the most represented club: a formula that encourages running groups to show up with large delegations, turning the club rankings into a race within a race.

Who organizes it

Behind the event is the Pro Loco of San Giorgio la Molara, which manages the organization with the support of the municipal administration and the collaboration of local running clubs. The Pro Loco is the soul of much of the local summer calendar, from the cicatelli pasta festival to hiking on the hill trails: the race is part of this series of activities that keep the community alive during the months when the town repopulates with those returning from afar. The organizers have always emphasized three watchwords—health, education, group—rather than just the clock.

A late-summer atmosphere

First-time visitors will find a very Italian setting in the best sense of the word: the gathering in the square, families lining the streets, refreshments at the finish line, and the awards ceremony under the castle with the public still in the square. The late afternoon time slot chosen in 2025 added a suggestive element, with the final kilometers run in the warm light of the sunset over the Fortore hills. This is not a race run for the time: it is run for the landscape and the hospitality.

How to get to San Giorgio La Molara

The town is located about 20 kilometers northeast of Benevento and just over 70 from Naples, at an altitude of 667 meters, in an area of cultivated ridges and small lakes. It can be reached by car via the roads connecting Sannio to the Fortore; there is no train station in the town, so Benevento remains the main hub, from which you can continue by bus or private vehicle. For runners, it is worth remembering that the altitude and the profile of the route make the test more demanding than the distance suggests.

2026 Edition: What we know

As of our last check, the official dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been published. Previous editions have taken place in the last ten days of August, so it is reasonable to expect a similar schedule, but until the Pro Loco makes an announcement, the date should be considered unconfirmed. We recommend checking the channels of the Pro Loco of San Giorgio la Molara and the Municipality before planning your trip or registration.

Corri San Giorgio — edition 2026

Previous races were held in the last ten days of August, starting from the center of San Giorgio La Molara and finishing in Piazza Roma, below the castle. For the 2026 edition of the Corri San Giorgio - Idnamic Trophy road race, as of our last check, there is neither an official date nor a published regulation. The event is organized by the Pro Loco of San Giorgio la Molara, in the Province of Benevento, and in recent years it has been consistently held in the second half of August, as part of the town's summer calendar.

Those who wish to participate can keep an eye on the channels of the Pro Loco and the Municipality of San Giorgio La Molara, as well as the regional running calendars of Campania, where the announcement is usually released a few weeks before the race. As soon as official information regarding the date, times, distance, and registration fee becomes available, we will update this page with the full program.

In the meantime, the route details from the last editions remain valid: start from the town center, immediate climb, section toward Lake San Giorgio, and final ramp up to Piazza Roma.
