The floral carpet accompanying the procession along Viale della Vittoria
In the heart of the seaside town of Alba Adriatica, in the province of Teramo, the solemnity of Corpus Domini is celebrated each year with one of the community's most cherished traditions: the Infiorata. Along Viale della Vittoria, the street is transformed into a fragrant, colorful carpet—an ephemeral mosaic crafted entirely by hand to accompany the religious procession organized by the Sant'Eufemia Parish.
The Infiorata is an ancient custom linked to the feast of Corpus Domini, the Catholic solemnity celebrating the presence of Christ in the Eucharist. In Abruzzo, as in many other Italian regions, these floral carpets are created using natural materials—flower petals, leaves, moss, seeds, and colored wood shavings—patiently arranged on the pavement to form sacred scenes, geometric patterns, and symbolic designs. The procession passes over these carpets, marking a meeting point between popular devotion and artistic creativity.
The preparation of the Infiorata involves volunteers, parishioners, and enthusiasts who work together in the hours leading up to the procession to complete the compositions. It is a moment that unites the entire town and keeps a tradition passed down through the years alive. In Alba Adriatica, the event takes place on the first Sunday of June and is complemented by the Curiosity Market along the seafront, in a day dedicated to local traditions and community life.
The setting for the event is Alba Adriatica, a popular resort town on the Teramo Riviera in Abruzzo, known for its golden beaches and long seaside pine forest. The Corpus Domini Flower Festival represents one of the moments when the town's religious and community dimensions are showcased in their most authentic form, offering residents and visitors a spectacle of faith, color, and beauty.
On Sunday, June 7, 2026, Alba Adriatica renewed its appointment with the Corpus Domini Flower Festival. The solemnity, whose liturgical day fell on Thursday, June 4, was celebrated on the following Sunday with the traditional procession accompanied by the floral carpet along Viale della Vittoria.
On the same day, the seafront hosted the Curiosity Market, in a blend of religious tradition, craftsmanship, and community life that kicks off the summer season in Alba.
The event, of a religious and traditional nature, does not include an artistic program with a line-up: the heart of the event is the flower festival and the procession through the streets of the center.
