The Sicilian hill climb on Provincial Road 28, one of the most beloved ascents in Southern Italy
The Coppa Val d'Anapo–Sortino is one of the most followed hill climbs in Southern Italy, an event that brings motorsport enthusiasts to the town of Sortino, in the province of Syracuse, every year. The competition unfolds along the scenic Provincial Road 28, nestled in the Val d'Anapo landscape, and has been a staple of the island's and national racing calendar for decades.
The race course measures 5.750 kilometers, with an elevation gain of approximately 286 meters and an average gradient of around 4%. The track winds through technical corners and fast stretches, offering drivers a demanding test and the public a continuous spectacle. The final kilometer, in particular, offers spectators a natural amphitheater, a prime spot to experience the arrival of the cars up close.
The event is valid for the Southern Italian Mountain Speed Championship (CIVM), the Sicilian Hill Climb Championship (modern and historic cars), and the Italian Two-Cylinder Trophy, attracting over 140 competitors from all over Italy, Malta, and other countries each year. Prototypes, sports cars, and touring cars compete on the track, featuring the most representative names in the discipline.
The Coppa Val d'Anapo–Sortino is organized by ASD Siracusa Pro Motor Sport with the patronage of the Automobile Club Siracusa and the support of the Sortino municipal administration and local entities. The organizational machine involves about 240 race officials and a unique logistical feature: the paddock is divided into two areas, a unique setup managed with care by the staff. The race is also followed via live television and official social media channels, a sign of its strong bond with the territory.
A Baroque village overlooking the Iblei Mountains, Sortino is famous for its honey and its proximity to the Val d'Anapo Nature Reserve, home to the UNESCO-listed rock necropolis of Pantalica. The hill climb thus combines a passion for motors with the discovery of one of the most fascinating corners of the province of Syracuse.
The 41st Coppa Val d'Anapo–Sortino took place from May 22 to 24, 2026, in the town of Sortino, in the province of Syracuse. After administrative and technical checks on Friday the 22nd at the Sortino Social Center and official practice on Saturday the 23rd, the race day on Sunday, May 24, saw about 140 competitors challenge each other on the 5.750 km of Provincial Road 28.
The overall victory went to Luigi Fazzino (Melilli) in an Osella PA30 Evo, with a total time of 6'20"39 over the two heats. Behind him were Franco Caruso and Samuele Mirko Cassibba, both in Nova Proto NP V8s. Among the historic cars, Giovanni Cassibba excelled in an Osella PA20 S BMW. The event, valid for the CIVM Sud, the Sicilian Championship, and the Two-Cylinder Trophy, confirmed its role as one of the most competitive hill climbs in Southern Italy.
Friday, May 22: administrative checks (12:30-19:30) and technical checks (13:00-20:00) at the Sortino Social Center; driver briefing at 20:30.

Sunday, May 24: race with two climb heats starting in the morning, with live coverage on official social channels and the local broadcaster (channel 85 TRIS Syracuse).
Sortino can be reached by car from the A18/SS114 motorway towards Syracuse, then continuing towards the Iblei hinterland. The nearest airports are Catania-Fontanarossa (approx. 60 km) and Comiso. The reference railway station is Syracuse.
Public viewing areas are set up along the Provincial Road 28 course; the final kilometer, shaped like a natural amphitheater, is the most spectacular spot. Comfortable clothing is recommended, and please follow the race officials' safety instructions.
