A grand game that brings the village to life

The Colfelice Treasure Hunt is one of the most cherished summer traditions in this small town in the province of Frosinone, in the heart of the Ciociaria region. For one or more days in August, the streets, alleys, and squares of the village become the board for a massive collective game, where teams of participants compete by following clues, solving riddles, and completing challenges scattered along the route. It is a playful, community-focused event designed to involve children, youth, and families in a shared experience that blends fun with local discovery.

How the hunt works

The format is the classic, engaging treasure hunt: groups receive a series of clues and, stage by stage, must navigate the most characteristic corners of Colfelice to reach the final solution. Each challenge requires intuition, teamwork, and a bit of luck, while the village fills with voices, laughter, and excitement. The 2025 edition took place on August 23rd and 24th and even required a municipal ordinance to manage traffic, a testament to how effectively the event mobilizes the entire community.

Colfelice, a village waiting to be discovered

Setting the hunt in the streets of Colfelice also means rediscovering a village with an ancient history. Founded in 1583 by the will of Duke Giacomo Boncompagni and formed in 1923 from the union of the settlements of Coldragone and Villafelice, the town preserves a compact historic center, with the Piazza del Duca and the charming vistas of the Villafelice core. The territory, crossed in Roman times by the Latina, Pedemontana, and Vetularia roads, holds significant archaeological evidence in the Ara Murata area. Playing here means crossing centuries of history at every stop.

A community event

The Treasure Hunt is born and thrives thanks to the commitment of local associations and volunteers, with the support of the Municipality of Colfelice. It is one of those initiatives that strengthen the sense of belonging in a small town in southern Lazio, capable of bringing different generations together around a simple idea: playing together, outdoors, and rediscovering one's own town. The event is part of a Colfelice summer rich in festivals and social moments, such as the patronal feast of San Gaetano and the Ferragosto celebrations.
