The Easter road race through the hills of the Alto Monferrato
The Circuito di Carpeneto has become a staple of the Piedmontese running calendar. It is held punctually on Easter Sunday, a choice that links the race to a day of celebration and turns Carpeneto, a small town in the Province of Alessandria, into a meeting point for hundreds of athletes, both competitive and amateur. The event is organized by the SOMS of Carpeneto (the historic Mutual Aid Society) in collaboration with ASD Verdenero, an association dedicated to promoting road running in the region.
The 9.4 km course is one of the most appreciated in the area for its variety: a mixed surface of asphalt and dirt that forms a loop as winding as the hills it traverses. The route touches the towns of Carpeneto and Trisobbio, offering participants typical views of the Alto Monferrato, a land of vineyards and rolling hills in south-eastern Piedmont. The start and finish are located in the town center, with the meeting point on Via Torino and the awards ceremony in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II.
While it has a competitive edge, the Circuito di Carpeneto retains the convivial spirit of a village race. Awards are not limited to the overall winners: there are prizes for the top finishers in numerous men's and women's categories, as well as awards for the largest sports groups, an incentive that draws entire clubs from Piedmont and Liguria. It is this combination of athletic challenge and family-friendly atmosphere that makes the race a classic of the Monferrato Easter.
Nestled in the hills between Ovada and Acqui Terme, Carpeneto is a village that preserves the discreet charm of southern Monferrato, with its castle and panoramic views over the vineyards. Participating in the Circuito is also an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Piedmont, far from the main tourist flows, where running becomes a way to experience the landscape and the local community.
The 24th edition of the Circuito di Carpeneto was held on Sunday, April 5, 2026, on Easter Day, with the start at 09:30 from Via Torino. Weather conditions were favorable, unlike the previous edition which was marked by rain. About one hundred runners took part in the classic 9.4 km loop between Carpeneto and Trisobbio, with 96 classified at the finish line.
The overall men's victory went to Saverio Bavosio (Acquirunners) with a time of 35:49, while Teresa Repetto (Atletica Novese) triumphed among the women in 42:58. The awards ceremony, held in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, honored the top three overall, the top finishers in nine men's and five women's categories, and the three largest sports groups.
