The Aci Catena film festival, beneath Mount Etna
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of Ionian Sicily, at the foot of Mount Etna, the Municipality of Aci Catena (Metropolitan City of Catania) hosts CineNostrum every summer, one of the longest-running and most beloved film festivals in the region. Born in 2005, the event has spanned twenty years of cultural history for the town and the entire region, transforming cinema into a tool to promote the area and its excellence.
The evenings take place outdoors in Piano Umberto, the main square of Aci Catena, with free admission. The formula is well-established: screenings of great Italian films, talks and meetings with guests, live musical moments, and an evening dedicated to young people with short films. It is this blend of popular cinema, cultural debate, and village festival that makes CineNostrum different from a simple summer film series.
Every year, the festival welcomes an illustrious figure from the world of cinema, to whom the event is dedicated and presented with an award. Among the most famous guests of recent editions are actress Maria Grazia Cucinotta and Catania-born actress Guia Jelo, along with Sicilian directors, actors, and producers such as Luana Rondinelli, Vladimir Di Prima, Antonello Piccione, and Ninni Panzera.
CineNostrum is organized by the Municipality of Aci Catena under the artistic direction of Cateno Piazza, with the support of the Sicilian Region (Department of Tourism, Sport and Entertainment), the Metropolitan City of Catania, the Chamber of Commerce of South East Sicily, Confindustria, and the Gal Terre di Aci. For those visiting the Etna area in summer, it is a free opportunity to experience great cinema in the square, in one of the pearls of the province of Catania, just a few kilometers from Acireale and the Ionian Sea.
The 2026 edition of CineNostrum is expected in the month of July in Aci Catena, in Piano Umberto, following the twenty-year milestone celebrated in 2025. At the moment, the exact dates and the 2026 program have not yet been published by the organization.
Following the festival's tradition, one can expect free evenings with screenings of great Italian films, meetings with actors and directors, a lifetime achievement award, and live musical moments. The detailed program and the guest of honor will be announced by the Municipality of Aci Catena and on the official Facebook page in the weeks leading up to the event.
Aci Catena is located in the province of Catania, along the Ionian coast. By car: A18 Messina-Catania motorway, Acireale exit, then a few minutes towards Aci Catena. By train: Acireale station, then bus or taxi. Nearest airport: Catania-Fontanarossa, about 25 km away.
Admission to all evenings is free. Screenings are held in Piano Umberto, generally in the evening (from around 9:00 PM). It is advisable to check the updated program on the official Facebook page and the website of the Municipality of Aci Catena.
Numerous accommodation facilities in Acireale and along the Ionian coast (Aci Trezza, Aci Castello, Santa Tecla) offer solutions within a short distance.
