Cinema sul Tetto - Peripheral Visions is the summer open-air film festival hosted at the Casilino Sky Park, in the V Municipality of Rome, in the heart of the Lazio region. The giant screen is set up on the fourth-floor terrace of a long-abandoned multi-story parking structure, roughly seventeen meters above ground. It spans four thousand square meters overlooking the districts of Alessandrino, Centocelle, Tor Tre Teste, Torre Maura, and Torpignattara, offering views that stretch as far as the dome of St. Peter's and the Roman hills. This is how the project became known as Italy's first suspended cinema.
The meaning of "Peripheral Visions"
The subtitle is more than just a name: the festival was created to restore a cinema experience to a part of the city where theaters have long been closed. The concept is simple and generous—popular, inclusive, high-quality programming, free admission, and no barriers. The result is an intergenerational audience that heads to the terrace at sunset, dines at the Terrazza del Gusto, and stays late into the night for the film. Here, the periphery is not a backdrop, but the protagonist.
Personal Trailer, the pre-film format
Every evening kicks off at 8:15 PM with Personal Trailer, a format hosted by Valerio Desirò: an informal conversation with directors, actors, writers, and key figures in the film industry, filled with anecdotes, memories, personal journeys, and unexpected detours. The screening begins at 9:00 PM. Many titles are presented directly by their creators, turning the evening into an intimate, open-air auteur encounter.
A program of contemporary Italian cinema
The lineup focuses on recent Italian cinema, featuring titles released in the immediate past seasons, alongside documentaries and occasional nods to Roman popular storytelling. Over the years, the festival has hosted thematic retrospectives and special events, such as the Nostalghia Awards, which honor independent cinema and screen the winning film.

The team behind it
The festival is produced in collaboration with the Fondazione Cinema per Roma—the same organization behind the Rome Film Fest—and supported by the V Municipality of Rome Capital. The Casilino Sky Park is an urban regeneration project that, from June to September, brings the entire structure to life with concerts, stand-up comedy, theater, children's play areas, padel courts, and seven local food stalls.

The 2026 season confirms the formula that has made the festival recognizable: every Tuesday, on the fourth-floor terrace of the Casilino Sky Park, a recent Italian film preceded by a meeting with its creators. At 8:15 PM, Personal Trailer takes the stage, the format hosted by Valerio Desirò who dialogues with directors, actors, and authors; at 9:00 PM, the screening begins on the giant screen overlooking East Rome.
The most anticipated evening is June 16th, with Muori di lei by Stefano Sardo, a sentimental thriller set during the 2020 lockdown, presented on the terrace by the director himself along with actress Maria Chiara Giannetta. The program continues throughout the summer, with a segment dedicated to the Nostalghia Awards and the winning film, as well as forays into documentaries and Roman popular storytelling.

How to get there
Casilino Sky Park, Viale della Bella Villa 106, Rome (Municipality V). By metro: Line C, Alessandrino stop, a few minutes' walk away. By car: Exit 18 of the Grande Raccordo Anulare (Casilina); the facility has approximately 600 free parking spaces. Screenings take place on the fourth-floor panoramic terrace.
Tickets
Free admission with a membership card, which can be purchased at the entrance. Seating is limited: it is advisable to arrive early, especially for evenings with guest speakers. In case of bad weather, screenings may be canceled or postponed: please check the Casilino Sky Park social media channels.
Tips
The terrace is open-air and breezy: a light sweater is useful even in the height of summer. Before the film, you can dine at the Terrazza del Gusto, which offers seven gastronomic options from the surrounding neighborhoods and a cocktail bar.
