About Cilento Traditional Flavours

In Poderia, a hamlet of Celle di Bulgheria, the Cilento Traditional Flavours Festival brings together recipes passed down through generations for three nights in July, set in the heart of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park. Fusilli al ragù, lagane e ceci, caciocavallo impiccato, local cured meats and traditional desserts are paired with live folk music and an authentic village atmosphere, in an event organized by the La Cilentana association with the support of the Municipality and the Province of Salerno.

Three nights of Cilento cuisine in Poderia

The Cilento Traditional Flavours Festival takes place in Poderia, a hamlet in the municipality of Celle di Bulgheria, in the province of Salerno, Campania. It is one of the most anticipated festivals of the summer in lower Cilento: for three consecutive nights in July, the streets and small squares of the village fill with food stalls, outdoor tables, and music, in an event that reached its fourth edition in 2026.

The format is that of a classic village festival, but with a precise ambition: to tell the story of Cilento through its most authentic dishes. The stalls do not offer a single menu, but rather the specialties of different Cilento villages, turning a single evening into a small gastronomic map of the territory. It is a simple and effective way to showcase a cuisine that, despite being one of the recognized roots of the Mediterranean diet, remains little known to passing tourism.

Traditional dishes

The recipes offered are those passed down from generation to generation in Cilento homes, prepared by local volunteers and cooks. Among the dishes that characterize the festival are:

  • Fusilli al ragù, fresh hand-made pasta with a long-simmered meat sauce;
  • Lagane e ceci, one of the iconic dishes of Cilento's peasant cuisine, with ancient origins;
  • Caciocavallo impiccato, cheese hung and melted over embers, served hot on bread;
  • Local cured meats and cheeses, from soppressata to farmhouse-produced caci;
  • Traditional desserts, prepared according to family recipes;
  • Cilento wines, the stars of the tastings that accompany the evenings.

Everything is served at popular festival prices in a convivial setting where you are happy to sit next to strangers: it is part of the experience.

Folk music, folklore, and family space

Alongside the gastronomy, the festival offers live folk and traditional music every night, with bands playing the repertoire of the South: tarantellas, tammurriate, and peasant songs that turn the square into an improvised dance floor late at night. There is also an area dedicated to children, with entertainment and games, making the event suitable for families.

Poderia, Celle di Bulgheria, and Mount Bulgheria

Celle di Bulgheria is a small municipality in southern Cilento, nestled at the foot of Mount Bulgheria, the limestone massif that dominates this stretch of coast and gives the town its name. The territory is located within the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and is just a few kilometers from the sea of Policastro, Marina di Camerota, and Palinuro.

Visitors to the festival are in an ideal position to combine a gastronomic evening with a day at the beach or a hike: Mount Bulgheria offers scenic trails and caves, while nearby villages preserve stone portals, 18th-century churches, and a rural fabric that remains largely intact. It is this blend of food and landscape that gives the event a value that goes beyond a simple gastronomic gathering.

Who organizes the festival

The event is promoted by the La Cilentana association, which manages the organization of the evenings, with the patronage of the Municipality of Celle di Bulgheria and the Province of Salerno. As is often the case with Cilento festivals, the event relies on the work of local volunteers and also serves as a reunion for emigrants returning to their home village in the summer.

When it takes place

The festival is held in July, traditionally over three consecutive nights. In 2026, it took place from July 23rd to 25th. The detailed program and the names of musical guests are usually announced by the organizing association in the weeks immediately preceding the event via social media channels and local Cilento event portals.

Cilento Traditional Flavours — edition 2026

The fourth edition of the Cilento Traditional Flavours Festival took place in Poderia, a hamlet of Celle di Bulgheria, from Thursday, July 23rd to Saturday, July 25th, 2026. Three evenings of food stalls dedicated to the specialties of Cilento villages, with fusilli al ragù, lagane e ceci, caciocavallo impiccato, cured meats, traditional desserts, and local wines, accompanied by live folk music and a space for children.

2026 Edition: the fourth

From July 23rd to 25th, 2026, Poderia hosted the fourth edition of the Cilento Traditional Flavours Festival, organized by the La Cilentana association with the patronage of the Municipality of Celle di Bulgheria and the Province of Salerno.

For three consecutive nights, the village reprised the formula that ensured the event's success: stalls dedicated to the specialties of different Cilento towns, dishes prepared according to recipes passed down through generations, and a live folk music program. The setting, as always, was the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, in an area where the festival also represents a moment of gathering for the community and for those returning to the village during the summer.

Programme Cilento Traditional Flavours 2026

The program released by the organizers included, for each of the three evenings (Thursday 23, Friday 24, and Saturday 25 July 2026), the opening of food stalls dedicated to the specialties of Cilento villages, with fusilli al ragù, lagane e ceci, caciocavallo impiccato, local cured meats and cheeses, and traditional desserts.

Accompanying the tastings: live folk and traditional music, folklore shows, and an area dedicated to children with entertainment and games. Tastings of Cilento wines were also planned. The precise opening times of the stalls and the names of musical guests were communicated by the La Cilentana association through its social channels in the days immediately preceding the event and are not published on accessible sources.
