A living nativity brought to life by children

During the Christmas season, the Sacra Famiglia Parish in Palestrina, located in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital (Lazio), hosts the Children's Living Nativity, a depiction of the Nativity performed entirely by the youngest members of the parish community. Inside the parish amphitheatre on Via Colle Girello, children dress in traditional costumes and guide visitors through a path filled with music, animated scenes, and small living tableaux.

A journey towards the Nativity

The event follows the classic living nativity format: the public is guided on an emotional journey to discover the Nativity, from the daily life of ancient Bethlehem to the grotto with the Holy Family. The scenes are carefully curated and enhanced by music and lighting, creating an intimate atmosphere that engages both adults and children. The direct participation of the children makes this event particularly dear to families in the neighborhood and throughout Palestrina.

When it takes place

The Children's Living Nativity is held between late December and early January over two evenings. For the 2025/2026 Christmas season, the dates were Saturday, December 28, 2025, and Saturday, January 4, 2026, both starting at 6:30 PM. The evening timing helps create the perfect atmosphere, with the parish amphitheatre illuminated for the occasion.

Refreshment area

During the evenings, a refreshment area managed by the parish community is set up, offering a place to warm up and socialize. Offerings include hot chocolate, mulled wine, and fried pizza, along with other traditional treats. It is a moment of conviviality that complements the performance and supports the parish's activities.

The living nativity is one of the most widespread Christmas traditions in Lazio and throughout Italy, and in Palestrina, it takes on the genuine face of a community celebration.
