About Cavalese Carnival

Every Shrove Tuesday, the historic center of Cavalese comes alive with masks, vibrant colors, and pure joy. The masked parade, accompanied by the Cavalese Social Band, winds through the town streets to the delight of children and families. With confetti, entertainment, and the traditional afternoon snack party, the Cavalese Carnival brings the carnival celebrations of the Val di Fiemme, in the heart of the Trentino Dolomites, to a festive close.

The Cavalese Carnival

The Cavalese Carnival is the annual event that, on Shrove Tuesday, brings the historic center of the main town of the Val di Fiemme, in Trentino-Alto Adige, to life. Organized by the Municipality of Cavalese in collaboration with local associations, the festival is primarily dedicated to children and families, who gather in costume for the final grand day of Carnival before Lent.

The Masked Parade

The heart of the event is the masked parade, which gathers in the early afternoon in Piazza Pasquai and travels through the streets of the historic center. The procession is accompanied by the Cavalese Social Band, whose music sets the rhythm for the parade and engages both young and old. The town streets are transformed into a cheerful trail of costumes, confetti, and streamers.

Entertainment and Snacks

Alongside the parade, the program includes entertainment and activities curated by the Bambi Association, featuring games designed for the little ones. There is also the traditional snack party, often offered in collaboration with the Cavalese Alpini Group, which warms up the winter atmosphere with sweets and hot drinks. In some editions, the day concludes with the screening of an animated film at the PalaFiemme.

A Community Celebration

The Cavalese Carnival is a collective event, made possible by the collaboration between the Municipality, the municipal library, the Alpini Group, the Social Band, and local associations. It represents one of the many highlights of the rich carnival calendar in the Val di Fiemme, which preserves ancient traditions and characteristic masks in its hamlets and neighboring villages, from the festivities in Masi di Cavalese to the historic Carnival of the Matòci in Valfloriana.

Cavalese and the Val di Fiemme

Nestled on a sunny natural terrace overlooking the valley, Cavalese is the main hub of the Val di Fiemme, in the province of Trento. Surrounded by the peaks of the Lagorai and Latemar ranges, it is a renowned tourist destination in both summer and winter. Experiencing Shrove Tuesday here means combining the warmth of local traditions with the charm of a Dolomite village, in a day of celebration open to both residents and visitors.
