The sweetest Easter Monday festival in the Marche region

The Castagnolo Festival is the unmissable event on Easter Monday in San Lorenzo in Campo, a small municipality in the Province of Pesaro and Urbino nestled in the Cesano Valley, in the Marche region. Founded in 1955, it is one of the oldest gastronomic events in the region: over sixty years of history make this festival a symbol of Laurentian identity.

What is castagnolo?

The absolute star is the spelt castagnolo, a traditional dessert prepared according to a recipe passed down from generation to generation. It all started with the women of the village who, since the post-war period, carefully kneaded it to celebrate Easter. Today, the spelt castagnolo is the first product of the Municipality to have obtained the De.C.O. (Denominazione Comunale di Origine), a recognition that protects its authenticity and its link with the territory.

A day of taste, music, and culture

The festival enlivens the entire historic center: from the morning, the food stands open where you can taste freshly baked castagnoli, while stalls, markets, and street food corners line Piazza Umberto I and viale Regina Margherita. Live concerts and dancing alternate on stage, with a program designed to engage both adults and children.

Walks and treasures to discover

The festival is also an opportunity to explore the village and its surroundings. The traditional event is the Cammino dei Lavatoi (Washhouses Walk), a walk that goes from San Lorenzo in Campo to the nearby hamlet of Montalfoglio, crossing a picturesque hilly landscape. During the day, some of the most precious sites in the territory are also open for visits: the Archaeological Museum of the Suasa Territory, the Benedictine Abbey, the Mario Tiberini Municipal Theatre, the Ethnographic Museum, and the curious Stamp Room.

Organized by the Pro Loco of San Lorenzo in Campo with the collaboration and patronage of the Municipal Administration, the Castagnolo Festival has free admission and represents one of the most authentic ways to experience Easter Monday in the Marche region.
