In the medieval village of Mondaro, a hamlet of Pezzaze in the upper Val Trompia (Province of Brescia), Carnival is celebrated with an original tradition: the Carnival on Trial. It's not just a masked parade, but a real theatrical performance that entertains both young and old.
Parade, Comedy, and Party
The afternoon begins with a gathering in Mondaro's square, from which the parade departs towards the oratory. In the theatre hall, a comedy, written by local author Pietro Richiedei, is then staged. In this play, masked characters are called to answer for bizarre and paradoxical accusations before an impromptu tribunal. After the show, the party continues in the oratory with music and entertainment for everyone.
Mondaro and the Upper Val Trompia
Mondaro is one of the most characteristic villages in the upper Val Trompia, a valley in Brescia with ancient mining and farming traditions. The Carnival on Trial is an expression of this community spirit, where popular satire and amateur theatre keep alive a tradition deeply felt by the inhabitants.

In 2026, the village of Mondaro, a hamlet of Pezzaze, will once again renew the tradition of the Carnival on Trial, scheduled during the Carnival period (February).
