A Carnival afternoon for children and families at the Don Bosco Oratory in Silvano d'Orba
In the small town of Silvano d'Orba, nestled in the hills of the Alto Monferrato in the Province of Alessandria, Carnival is a celebration that speaks primarily to children. Every year, the Don Bosco Oratory opens its doors to welcome families, grandparents, and youngsters for an afternoon of pure joy, featuring costumes, confetti, and classic games.
The Silvano d'Orba Carnival Festival is not a grand postcard event, but something more precious for those living in a village of just under two thousand inhabitants: a moment of community. There are no monumental floats here, but rather the warmth of an oratory that has represented a meeting point for the youth for generations. It is a party where local children dress up, run through games and activities, and share a snack together, all while music provides the backdrop for the afternoon.
For those visiting Piedmont and the Alto Monferrato during the Carnival season, the Don Bosco Oratory festival is an opportunity to experience an authentic tradition, far from mass tourism. It is Carnival as it used to be, where the focus is not on the spectacle, but on the smiles of the children. A small but significant event that captures the welcoming spirit of the towns in the Province of Alessandria.
On the afternoon of Tuesday, February 17, 2026, Shrove Tuesday, the Don Bosco Oratory in Silvano d'Orba hosted the traditional Carnival Festival dedicated to the town's children and families.
Starting at 2:30 PM, the little ones, dressed in their costumes, enlivened the oratory with games and fun. There was a snack for everyone and, above all, the highly anticipated 'pentolaccia', the large Carnival piñata full of surprises.
