Carbognano Carnival

A carnival that has lived for half a century

The Carbognano Carnival is one of the most cherished winter events in this small village in the province of Viterbo, in the Lazio region. A staple of local history for over fifty years, it was born from the enthusiasm of Ponziano Narduzzi, "Zi Pippo," and a group of friends who wanted to give the community a festival capable of uniting all generations. Today, the event is carried forward by the Zerodiecitrenta cultural association, which preserves its genuine, grassroots spirit.

The parade in the historic center

The highlight is the carnival parade that traverses the heart of the village. The procession of masks and groups sets off from Piazza del Pesatore, travels through the streets and alleys of Carbognano's historic center, and reaches Piazza del Comune, where the festivities concentrate with dancing, music, and showers of confetti. As the organizers remind us, the Carbognano Carnival is "unity, lightheartedness, engagement, joy, fun, music, confetti, but above all, Tradition".

A community celebration

For years, the event has attracted curious onlookers, tourists, and citizens from neighboring towns: many arrive already in costume to join the local groups, united by the same goal of having fun. It is a deeply rooted festival where the participation of children and families remains the most important value. Local districts and groups work in the weeks leading up to the event to prepare costumes and floats, keeping a tradition alive that is passed down from generation to generation.

Carbognano, the village of Giulia Farnese

The Carnival is also an opportunity to discover Carbognano, a charming village at the foot of the Cimini Mountains in the Tuscia area. The town, with its medieval layout, gathers around the imposing Farnese Castle, documented since the 13th century and transformed into a fortified residence by the famous Giulia Farnese, who chose Carbognano as her favorite home in the early decades of the 16th century. Walking through the streets of the center during the festival means immersing yourself in a town that has managed to preserve its identity and roots.
