The challenge between the districts of Carate Brianza
In Carate Brianza, a municipality in the Province of Monza and Brianza, the Palio Caratese is much more than an event: it is the moment when the city recognizes itself in its history and in the spirit of belonging to the districts. The prestigious setting is Villa Cusani Confalonieri, an ancient medieval castle transformed into a noble residence in the 17th century and now municipally owned, the heart of Carate's cultural life.
The core of the event is the challenge of team games between the city's districts. Between registrations, trials, and finals, the teams compete for the palio in a day that alternates competition and fun, culminating in the final award ceremony with the presentation of medals. It is the playful and popular dimension of a re-enactment that has its roots in Carate's past traditions and continues to renew itself.
The 2026 edition presents a specific theme, "Cuore Caratese: tradition that evolves, a future to live", which summarizes the spirit of the festival: keeping memory and looking forward together. Alongside the games, there are awards for historic Carate businesses and shops, the screening of a celebratory video, a dedicated exhibition, culinary stands, and musical entertainment. The Pro Loco organizes the convivial lunch, a true bonding element of the day.
For those visiting the Brianza region, the Palio Caratese is an opportunity to discover the soul of a community that celebrates around its neighborhoods. The combination of the beauty of Villa Cusani Confalonieri, the warmth of the inter-district challenge, and the conviviality of the food stalls makes it an event to be fully experienced.
