One hundred years of parade floats in the heart of Brianza Comasca
The Cantù Carnival is one of the most deeply rooted traditions in Cantù, in the heart of Brianza, province of Como. In 2026, it reaches a historic milestone: the 100th edition, a century of parades that has spanned generations of Cantù residents. Organized by the Cantù Carnival Association, it is now one of the most important carnivals in Lombardy.
The heart of the event is the parade float competition, which sees local associations competing: Bentransema, Amici di Fecchio, Baloss, Buscait, Il Coriandolo Cantù, Lisandrin, Gruppo Mirabello, and La Maschera. Each group works for months to build imposing and meticulously crafted floats, a true expression of craftsmanship and imagination. The parades wind along a route through the city center, over several Sundays, culminating in the grand finale on Fat Saturday.
The centenary is enriched by numerous collateral initiatives: a commemorative philatelic cancellation, the caricature exhibition 'Paper Masks', the children's carnival, and the final ball. A celebration that involves the entire Cantù community and makes Cantù, already famous for its furniture and lace-making tradition, a reference point for the Brianza Carnival.
Visiting the Cantù Carnival means immersing yourself in the festive spirit of Brianza Comasca. Cantù is easily accessible from Como, Milan, and Lecco, and during Carnival, it offers a spectacle of colors suitable for the whole family.
The 2026 edition marks the centenary: one hundred years of Cantù Carnival, celebrated with four parades in the center of Cantù. Eight historical groups compete in the parade float contest: Bentransema (reigning champions), Amici di Fecchio, Baloss, Buscait, Il Coriandolo Cantù, Lisandrin, Gruppo Mirabello, and La Maschera.
The centenary program also includes a commemorative philatelic cancellation, the 'Paper Masks' exhibition, the children's carnival, and the final ball.
