Choral groups from across Italy perform amidst castles, palaces, and cloisters in the village of Soriano nel Cimino
For four days, the "Canta con Noi" Choral Festival transforms Soriano nel Cimino, a medieval village in the province of Viterbo, into a landmark for Italian choral singing. Choirs from across the peninsula gather at the town's iconic monumentsโthe Orsini Castle, the famous fountains of Palazzo Chigi Albani, the Cloister of Sant'Agostino, and the Collegiate Churchโfor an event that dissolves the barrier between stage and audience: as the festival's motto goes, you are not just a spectator, you are part of the sound.
The festival was founded in 2026 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the "Francesco Suriano" Polyphonic Choir of Soriano nel Cimino, directed by Maestro Alessio Pacchiarotti. For over three decades, this group of passionate non-professionals has cultivated choral singing as an experience of friendship and sharing. With "Canta con Noi," they aimed to turn this legacy into an event open to all Italian choirs, regardless of professional background: all that matters is the desire to share music and energy.
The program spreads choral performances throughout the afternoon and evening in the village's most beautiful settings. Participating groups are organized with dedicated activities: choral showcases, excursions to the most evocative sites in Tuscia, and convivial lunches and dinners at local venues. The stated goal is to create new connections between singers, strengthen bonds, and experience music authentically in a setting that combines energy, emotion, and participation. The most anticipated moment is the collective choral gathering on Sunday morning in the square, when all voices unite into one grand choir.
Alongside the choirs, the first edition welcomed notable guests: the "Orsini Virtuosi" duo with Matt Walker on cello and Zenebe Bowers on violin, the medieval music group "Il Gatto Lupesco," and Armenian musician Sona G. Hakobyan, who brings the language and instruments of her homeland to the stage. The village atmosphere is enriched by historical flair, with swordsmen and falconers animating the performances at the castle.
The municipality of Soriano nel Cimino, nestled on the slopes of Monte Cimino in the Lazio region, is one of the most fascinating villages in Tuscia. Dominated by the 13th-century Orsini Castle commissioned by Pope Nicholas III, it also houses the monumental Papacqua fountain of Palazzo Chigi Albani and, just above the town, the Ancient Beech Forest of Monte Cimino, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The festival is also an invitation to discover this territory: the excursions planned for participating groups guide singers through forests, the village, and monuments, making singing a way to inhabit the landscape. For the public, the festival days are a unique opportunity to visit Soriano nel Cimino at the start of summer, amidst choral music and medieval stone.
From June 11 to 14, 2026, Soriano nel Cimino christened the "Canta con Noi" Choral Festival, created to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the "Francesco Suriano" Polyphonic Choir directed by Maestro Alessio Pacchiarotti. Performances, spread between afternoon and evening, animated the village's iconic sites: Orsini Castle, the fountains of Palazzo Chigi Albani, the Cloister of Sant'Agostino โ the theater of the main evening on Friday, June 12 โ and the Collegiate Church.
Among the protagonists, alongside the local choir, were the "Tullio Cima and Domenico Massenzio" Polyphonic Choir of Ronciglione directed by Maestro Giammarco Casani, the "Orsini Virtuosi" duo (Matt Walker on cello and Zenebe Bowers on violin), the medieval music group "Il Gatto Lupesco," and Armenian musician Sona G. Hakobyan. The village atmosphere was enhanced by swordsmen and falconers, while participating groups alternated choral showcases with excursions to the most evocative sites in Tuscia, from the Ancient Beech Forest of Monte Cimino to the monuments of the historic center, and convivial moments at local venues. On Sunday morning, the collective choral gathering in the square at 11:00 AM brought all voices together in a shared finale, hailed by the local press as a great success.
Choral performances distributed between afternoon and evening in the four historic venues of the village: Orsini Castle, Palazzo Chigi Albani, the Cloister of Sant'Agostino (main evening on Friday, June 12), and the Collegiate Church. Participating choirs, organized into six groups, alternated showcases with guided excursions to Tuscia sites and convivial lunches and dinners. On Sunday, June 14, at 11:00 AM, the collective choral gathering in the square closed the festival by uniting all voices.
