A festival born from the neighborhood

The Borghetto Festival is the summer highlight of the Borghetto district in Grottaferrata, a town in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, located in the heart of the Castelli Romani and the Lazio region. It is not a festival manufactured by institutional planners; it was born from the grassroots, from the residents' desire to reclaim a local green space and transform it, for a few evenings, into the center of the neighborhood's social life. The result is a community-scale event that has grown with each edition to become one of the most anticipated dates of the Grottaferrata summer.

Parco Maria Tinto Rocca, the heart of the event

The stage for the festival is Parco Maria Tinto Rocca, on Via Montiglioni. It is a neighborhood green space that has been progressively redeveloped in recent years, and the festival itself has served as the backdrop for the inauguration of several new features: inclusive playgrounds for children, a dedicated dog area, and maintenance work on common spaces. There is a clear link between the festival and the park, as the event serves to demonstrate that the park is a living asset, frequented and defended by the residents.

Who organizes it

The event is promoted by the Vivi Comune Association together with the Borghetto Neighborhood Committee, with the patronage and support of the Grottaferrata municipal administration and the collaboration of the Pro Loco Grottaferrata. The evenings take place under the supervision of the Carabinieri, Local Police, and the Red Cross, ensuring the safety of an event that attracts audiences of all ages. The official inauguration, usually on the first day, sees the presence of the Mayor and civil authorities.

Grottaferrata and the Castelli Romani

Grottaferrata is best known for the Greek Abbey of San Nilo, an exarchic monastery founded in 1004 and the only active Italo-Albanian Byzantine-rite monument in Lazio, as well as for its food and wine tradition linked to the wines of the Colli Albani. Those arriving for the Borghetto Festival will find a major historical heritage just minutes away, along with the network of traditional fraschette (taverns) and wineries of the Castelli Romani, not to mention the proximity to Frascati, Marino, and Lake Albano. In this sense, the festival is also an excellent opportunity to discover a daily, non-touristy side of a territory just half an hour from Rome.
