Italy's oldest open-air book fair on the Sentierone
Established in 1959, the Bergamo Booksellers Fair is the oldest book event in Italy. Every spring, the historic Sentierone, the elegant promenade in Bergamo Bassa's Centro Piacentiniano, transforms into an immense open-air bookstore, with pavilions extending over a thousand square meters of exhibition space. Promoted by Confesercenti Bergamo, the fair is an unmissable event for readers throughout Lombardy.
The 67th edition features over 130 events, designed under the banner of a plural and inclusive offering. Alongside dialogues with authors, there are performances, concerts, readings, and workshops, in a schedule that intertwines literature, current affairs, music, and civic engagement. The musical review for the 2026 edition complements meetings and presentations with entertainment moments.
The lineup for the 67th edition brings together some of the most well-known names in the Italian cultural and journalistic scene: among the announced guests are Mario Calabresi, former minister Marta Cartabia, Lella Costa, Nando Dalla Chiesa, Marco Damilano, Giovanni Floris, Anna Foa, Luciano Fontana, Gad Lerner, Telmo Pievani, and Walter Veltroni.
Strolling among the stalls of the Booksellers Fair, browsing volumes amidst the buildings of the Sentierone, is an experience that combines literary discovery with the pleasure of experiencing the center of Bergamo. With over 160,000 visitors and tens of thousands of books sold at each edition, the fair confirms the cultural vitality of the Orobic capital and the Province of Bergamo.
The 67th edition of the Bergamo Booksellers Fair takes place from April 18 to May 3, 2026, on the historic Sentierone, transformed into a large open-air bookstore covering over a thousand square meters of exhibition space.
Over 130 events, including dialogues with authors, performances, concerts, readings, and workshops, accompany the sale of approximately 50,000 titles, including novels, essays, and children's books. The edition saw 168,100 visitors and around 26,500 books sold.
The program for the 67th edition features over 130 events: dialogues with authors, performances, concerts, readings, and workshops, with a dedicated musical review.
The complete schedule of meetings is available on the official website fieradeilibrai.it.
The Sentierone is located in the center of Bergamo Bassa, a few minutes' walk from the train station. The city is served by the A4 motorway (Bergamo exit) and Orio al Serio airport.
Access to the fair and stands is free. Most author meetings are free; some events may require booking.
The fair is particularly crowded on weekends and during spring holidays: it's advisable to arrive early for the most anticipated events.
