La Befana welcomes children in the square, with sweets and entertainment
The Befana in Piazza XI Febbraio is the event with which Cologno Monzese, a populous municipality in the northeastern hinterland of Milan in the province of Milan, celebrates Epiphany. On Befana's Day, the central Piazza XI Febbraio transforms into a magical place for the little ones, where the friendly old woman of Italian tradition welcomes children to her "house" set up for the occasion.
The afternoon, from 3 PM to 6 PM, is entirely dedicated to families: with sweets and sugar coal, as tradition dictates, and moments of entertainment, children experience the Epiphany atmosphere in a climate of shared joy. It is the festival that closes the long Christmas holiday period, the last moment of magic before returning to school.
Organized by the Municipality of Cologno Monzese, the Befana festival is a simple and heartfelt occasion to bring the community together in the square. An event that renews one of the most beloved traditions by Italian families, giving children an afternoon of smiles in the heart of the city.
The 2026 Befana festival in Cologno Monzese will be held on Tuesday, January 6, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, in Piazza XI Febbraio. La Befana will welcome children to her "house" set up in the square, with sweets, sugar coal, and entertainment. An afternoon of joy for the community before returning to school.
