The mountain and adventure film festival stops in Pavia
The BANFF Mountain Film Festival World Tour is one of the most important film festivals in the world dedicated to mountains, adventure, and outdoor sports. Founded in 1976 in Banff, Canada, it selects the best films from its competition each year and takes them on tour to over 45 countries. The Pavia stop, the capital of its province in Lombardy, is held at the Cinema Politeama and is one of the most anticipated events for outdoor enthusiasts in the region.
The evening features a selection of six films, for about two hours of screening, ranging from extreme alpinism to adventure sports, from grand natural landscapes to stories of men and women who live the mountains. Not just sporting achievements: the films also address issues of sustainability and the relationship between humans and the environment, in line with the festival's spirit, founded on respect and responsibility towards nature.
The Pavia stop takes place in collaboration with the University of Pavia and its office for sustainability (OSA). This link with the university enriches the evening with a cultural and discussion dimension, consistent with the university tradition that characterizes the city.
The BANFF Mountain Film Festival is more than just a screening: it's an opportunity to be inspired, to dream, and to reflect. For Pavia, a city in the plains by the Ticino River, hosting the festival means bringing the world of mountains and adventure closer to the public, in an evening of great engagement at the Cinema Politeama.
The Pavia stop of the BANFF Mountain Film Festival World Tour 2026 is scheduled for Thursday, March 19th at 8:00 PM at the Cinema Politeama. The evening features a selection of six films, for about two hours of screening, exploring adventures, outdoor sports, and mountains, with a focus on sustainability and the human-nature relationship. The event is held in collaboration with the University of Pavia and its sustainability office (OSA); Federica Villa, pro-rector and cinema professor at the university, will be present. 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the festival's founding in Canada in 1976.
Pavia is connected to Milan by train (about 30 minutes) and by car via the A7 motorway. The Cinema Politeama is located in the city center.
The evening is held on a single date, usually in the evening (8:00 PM). Tickets are available through the festival and cinema channels.
