A Gallery Along the Naviglio
Arte sul Naviglio Grande is one of the most characteristic artistic events in Milan, Lombardy. It takes place along the Alzaia of the Naviglio Grande, in the Navigli district (Municipality 6), one of the most scenic and beloved corners of the city. For one day, the canal banks transform into an open-air art gallery stretching for almost two kilometers.
Hundreds of Artists
The exhibition brings together hundreds of artists—painters, sculptors, and photographers—from all over Italy, who present their works directly along the canal. It's a unique opportunity to discover contemporary art in a suggestive setting, strolling among the easels and interacting with the artists.
The Premio Arte Naviglio
The heart of the event is the Premio Arte Naviglio: each artist can submit an artwork, which is evaluated by a jury composed of personalities from Milan's cultural and journalistic circles. This award lends prestige to the event and encourages participation.
A Navigli Tradition
Organized by the Associazione del Naviglio Grande, the exhibition began as a spontaneous showcase for local painters and has grown into an anticipated event, held multiple times a year. During the day, the district's restaurants and bars remain open, contributing to the festive atmosphere that characterizes the Navigli.
Art on the Naviglio — edition 2026
The autumn 2026 edition of Arte sul Naviglio Grande takes place on Sunday, September 13, from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, along the banks of the Naviglio Grande in the Navigli district of Milan. The event, organized by the Associazione del Naviglio Grande, brings together hundreds of painters, sculptors, and photographers from all over Italy in an open-air exhibition nearly two kilometers long.
The Premio Arte Naviglio is also planned for 2026, with a jury of Milanese cultural and journalistic personalities. Throughout the day, restaurants and bars in the district remain open.
