About ArRiO Carnival

The ArRiO Carnival is the colorful carnival parade that animates the hamlet of Passatempo, in the Municipality of Osimo (Province of Ancona, Marche) every spring. Organized by the youth association Senso Unico, it features a procession of allegorical floats built by citizens, masked groups, and flag-wavers who parade through the decorated streets of the town. After the parade, the celebration continues at the Muzio Gallo sports field with live music, DJ sets, food stalls, and the awarding of the best floats. Free admission.

A carnival out of season in the heart of the Marche

The ArRiO Carnival is one of the most anticipated events of the Osimo spring. It takes place in Passatempo, a hamlet in the Municipality of Osimo, in the Province of Ancona, in the heart of the Marche region. The unique aspect of this carnival is its timing: it is not held during the traditional February period, but in May, when the mild weather allows for a full day of outdoor celebration. The name itself, ArRiO, plays on the return (ar-Rio) of the carnival to the hamlet.

The parade of allegorical floats

The heart of the event is the parade of allegorical floats, built with passion by the citizens and local groups. The floats, some animated by over thirty participants, travel through the streets of Passatempo, which are entirely decorated for the occasion, alongside static floats and installations along the route. Traditionally, the parade is opened by the Flag-wavers of Filottrano, who bring color and spectacle, while the closing is entrusted to the musical energy of the Sbandati group. Each edition features a different theme: the 2026 edition, the eighth, was dedicated to an atmosphere inspired by the Far East, transforming the route into a grand immersive stage with sets, costumes, and performances.

The celebration at the Muzio Gallo sports field

Once the procession concludes, the event transitions into a large celebration at the facilities of the Muzio Gallo sports field in Passatempo. Here, live music, DJ sets, food stalls, and drinks accompany the public until the award ceremony for the best floats, a highlight that closes the day. Over the years, various entertainers and DJs have performed on stage, making the event suitable for families with children as well as younger audiences.

A community celebration

Founded in 2013 on the initiative of the youth association Senso Unico, the ArRiO Carnival has grown edition after edition to involve the entire hamlet and surrounding villages. The event is sponsored by the Municipality of Osimo and supported by the Legislative Assembly of the Marche region, confirming its cultural and social value. It has become a reference point for those seeking an authentic and participatory carnival, away from large crowds and close to the community spirit of the Marche hamlets.
