The historic livestock fair of the Bormida Valley, approaching its centenary
The Antica Fiera del Bestiame di Carcare is one of the oldest and most established livestock events in Liguria. It is held in Carcare, a town in the Bormida Valley in the province of Savona, and is approaching the prestigious milestone of its centenary, demonstrating a rare continuity among agricultural fairs in the region.
The heart of the fair is the livestock exhibition, where breeders bring their animals for a grand showcase dedicated to animal husbandry. Alongside the animals, stands offer typical products from the Bormida Valley, while agricultural exhibitions and entertainment enrich the programme, making the fair also a moment of popular celebration and social gathering.
The fair is rooted in the agricultural culture and economy that has characterised the Bormida Valley for centuries. Keeping this tradition alive means preserving a link with the territory's history, at a time when livestock fairs are increasingly rare. Carcare has been a custodian of this tradition for almost a century.
A hub in the Bormida Valley on the border with Piedmont, Carcare is a lively centre in the Savona hinterland. The Antica Fiera del Bestiame is its most important identity event, capable of uniting agricultural tradition with celebration, and attracting a large audience from all over the valley each year.
For 2026, the Antica Fiera del Bestiame di Carcare celebrates its 100th edition, the centenary of one of Liguria's longest-running livestock fairs. The event, historically held between the end of August and the beginning of September, offers livestock exhibitions, stands with typical products from the Bormida Valley, agricultural shows, and entertainment. The precise dates for the centenary edition will be announced by the Municipality of Carcare closer to the event.
The detailed programme for the 2026 centenary edition will be announced by the Municipality of Carcare. The fair traditionally includes:
