The great symphonic music of FORM in the heart of Ancona, between the University's Aula Magna and the Teatro delle Muse
Every year, from January to May, Ancona becomes the Marchigian capital of great symphonic music thanks to Ancona Classica, the program that unites under one banner the FORM - Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana, the Polytechnic University of Marche, and the "Guido Michelli" Society of Friends of Music, with the support of the Municipality of Ancona. It is one of the most anticipated events in the cultural life of the regional capital, in the heart of the Marche region.
The concerts are held in some of the most evocative locations in the city: the "Guido Bossi" Aula Magna of the Polytechnic University of Marche, the main venue for the symphonic series, the Teatro delle Muse (the city's premier theatre), and the Teatro Sperimentale, which hosts the chamber music section. Some programs are also replicated in other Marchigian cities, from Fabriano to Jesi, reflecting the orchestra's regional scope.
The strength of Ancona Classica lies in its blend of repertoires: alongside the great classics of the 18th and 19th centuries, there are premieres by contemporary Marchigian composers, tributes to cinema, and projects designed to attract new audiences. The season is divided into two main streams: the symphonic series "Musica Sinfonica" and the chamber concerts "Contrappunti," offering diverse listening experiences throughout the spring.
One of the distinctive features of the series is its connection with the University: many concerts in the symphonic section are free for the university community, with booking through the University's Reserved Area. This is a concrete way to bring young people into the concert hall and make the regional orchestra a shared asset for the city of Ancona and the entire Province.
The 2026 symphonic season of the FORM - Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana, titled "Attraverso", enlivened Ancona from January to May as part of Ancona Classica, in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Marche, the "Guido Michelli" Friends of Music, and the Municipality of Ancona.
The program alternated between the great symphonic repertoire, premieres by Marchigian composers, and tributes to cinema, featuring renowned soloists and conductors. The orchestra's artistic direction confirmed its commitment to combining musical quality with an openness to young audiences, thanks to the free admission for many events for the university community.
The most anticipated moment was Giuseppe Verdi's Messa da Requiem, performed at the Teatro delle Muse on April 1st with choir, soloists, and the full orchestra.

The main venue is the "Guido Bossi" Aula Magna of the Polytechnic University of Marche, located in the Monte Dago/Brecce Bianche area of Ancona. It is accessible by car from the Ancona Nord/Sud exit of the A14 motorway and by city buses. The Teatro delle Muse and Teatro Sperimentale are located in the city center, a short distance from Ancona's train station.
Concerts in the symphonic series at the Aula Magna are free for the university community (maximum two seats per person, booking via the univpm.it Reserved Area). For "Contrappunti," prices range approximately from 20 to 30 euros, with reductions for students. A season ticket (full price, reduced, and student) is available for purchase at the box office and on vivaticket.com.
Advance booking is recommended, especially for the most popular concerts such as Verdi's Requiem at the Teatro delle Muse. Ancona offers a wide range of accommodation in the city center and along the coast, ideal for combining the concert with a weekend in the Marche region.
