Cinema and Mediterranean dialogue in the heart of the Murgia
AMURA – Altamura International Film Festival is an international film event launching in 2026 in Altamura, a city in the Murgia region of Puglia. The festival is dedicated to cinema, audiovisual culture, and fostering dialogue among Mediterranean peoples, serving as a space for encounter, exchange, and cultural cross-pollination. For three days, the city becomes a widespread stage for contemporary creativity, hosting screenings, meetings, panels, networking events, book launches, exhibitions, guided tours, and special collaborations with local associations.
The festival activities take place across three locations that define the identity of Altamura:
The selection of works is entrusted to an international jury chaired by director, author, and producer Mimmo Mongelli, alongside Corrado Ardone, Anna Piscopo, Rosa Lorusso, and Vito Lopriore. The official spokesperson for the event is the Apulian actress, author, and director Irene Antonucci, known for her international career spanning cinema, television, and theater. The project is supported by the Municipality of Altamura and curated by the Obiettivo Successo Academy, with contributions from national brands and the support of local business networks and associations.
AMURA aims to connect the languages, stories, and sensibilities of the various countries bordering the Mediterranean, showcasing auteur cinema, short films, documentaries, and emerging works. The festival combines screenings with training and networking opportunities, establishing itself as a new destination for authors, producers, and film enthusiasts.
As the third-largest city in the province of Bari, Altamura is famous for its PDO bread, the Cathedral commissioned by Frederick II, and the imposing Murgia plateau. Hosting an international film festival in the historic center means weaving together heritage, tradition, and contemporary culture, offering visitors an experience that blends the big screen, art, and the discovery of the Apulian landscape.
The 2026 edition marks the debut of the AMURA – Altamura International Film Festival in Altamura, scheduled from July 9th to 11th. For three days, the city in the Murgia region becomes a widespread stage for cinema and audiovisual culture, with screenings, meetings, panels, book presentations, exhibitions, and guided tours distributed between Piazza della Repubblica, the Ex Conservatorio Santa Croce, and LiberHub.
The event, curated by the Obiettivo Successo Academy with the patronage of the Municipality of Altamura, focuses on dialogue between Mediterranean peoples and showcases international and emerging works. The selection is entrusted to an international jury chaired by Mimmo Mongelli.
The detailed program for the inaugural edition, including screening times, guests, and special events, is announced progressively on the festival's official channels in the weeks leading up to the event. Activities are spread across three venues: Piazza della Repubblica for public events and the red carpet, the Ex Conservatorio Santa Croce for screenings and meetings, and LiberHub for training and networking activities.
Altamura is located in the inland Murgia region of the province of Bari. By car, it is accessible via the SS 96 Bari–Matera road; by train, via the Ferrovie Appulo Lucane (FAL) line from Bari or Matera. The nearest airport is Bari-Palese, approximately one hour away.
