About Amici della Musica Palermo

Founded in 1925, the Associazione Siciliana Amici della Musica is one of Italy's oldest and most prestigious concert institutions. Every year, from November to April, it brings world-class classical and chamber music to Palermo with an evening series at the Politeama Garibaldi and an afternoon series dedicated to young piano talents. The 2025/2026 season celebrates the association's centenary, featuring a stellar program inaugurated by Sir Antonio Pappano.

A century of music in Palermo

The Associazione Siciliana Amici della Musica, founded in Palermo in 1925 by Vito Trasselli-Varvaro, is among the longest-running and most authoritative concert institutions in Italy. For a century, it has brought the greatest international classical music performers to the Sicilian capital, building a season that has become an essential appointment for the public of the Municipality of Palermo and the entire Sicilian Region.

Two complementary seasons

The program is divided into two parallel series. The evening season offers twelve concerts at the Teatro Politeama Garibaldi, in the heart of Palermo, starting at 8:45 PM: featuring world-renowned orchestras, soloists, and chamber ensembles. The afternoon season, consisting of six Sunday concerts at 5:15 PM at the historic venue of Palazzo Gravina di Palagonia, is primarily dedicated to the great piano repertoire and the promotion of emerging young talents.

The 2025/2026 Centenary

The 2025/2026 season marks the one hundred years of the association and serves as a celebratory edition. The inaugural concert on November 3, 2025, features Sir Antonio Pappano, one of the world's most celebrated conductors, on the podium. The evening program continues with pianists such as Giovanni Bellucci, Andrea Lucchesini, and Yulianna Avdeeva, the famous double bass ensemble The Bass Gang, and prestigious chamber groups. The afternoon season opens with Vivaldi's The Four Seasons performed by the Orchestra delle Due Sicilie.

School Project and educational commitment

Alongside the concerts, the association has for years managed an extensive School Project, with morning concerts and initiatives designed to introduce younger generations to classical music, confirming an educational vocation that complements the high artistic level of the programming.

A reference point for Sicily

With a century of history behind it and a loyal audience, the Amici della Musica represents one of the pillars of Palermo's cultural life today, capable of attracting the protagonists of the European concert scene to the Sicilian capital while simultaneously showcasing new generations of performers.
