About Alpine Scenarios

The MUNAF in Cinisello Balsamo presents 'Alpine Scenarios. Landscapes and Communities of Lombardy', an exhibition that investigates the Lombardy mountains through seven visual artist projects selected by the museum. Photography, video, multimedia installations, and ethnographic research tell of artisanal knowledge, the relationship with nature, the role of women in alpine communities, and transformations linked to the Winter Olympics. Curated by Matteo Balduzzi and part of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Cultural Olympics program, the exhibition is held at Villa Ghirlanda with an installation by Studio Folder.

Lombardy's Mountains at MUNAF

The MUNAF – National Museum of Photography in Cinisello Balsamo (Metropolitan City of Milan), at Villa Ghirlanda, hosts 'Alpine Scenarios. Landscapes and Communities of Lombardy', a group exhibition exploring the landscape and communities of the Lombardy mountains through the lens of contemporary art.

Seven Author Projects

The exhibition features seven projects by visual artists, selected through a museum call, which weave together photography, video, multimedia installations, and ethnographic research. The works investigate artisanal knowledge, the non-anthropocentric relationship with nature, transformations linked to the Winter Olympics, the role of women in alpine communities, and traditional rites in their contemporary form. Opening the exhibition is the work 'Rhônegletscher 02' by Walter Niedermayr, dedicated to the Rhone Glacier.

Towards Milan-Cortina 2026

Curated by Matteo Balduzzi with an installation designed by Studio Folder, the exhibition is part of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Cultural Olympics program. An opportunity to reflect, through art, on the meaning of the mountains and their communities in a symbolic year for Lombardy, confirming Cinisello Balsamo as a national hub for photography.
