Prose, opera, and big names of the Italian stage in the heart of the Fermano area
The Domenico Alaleona Municipal Theater is the beating heart of the cultural life of Montegiorgio, a hilltop village in the province of Fermo, in the Marche region. Named after the Montegiorgio musicologist and composer Domenico Alaleona, every winter season hosts an extensive and curated program that draws spectators from all over the Fermano area and neighboring towns.
The program is not limited to prose: alongside spoken theater performances, there are opera, comedy and stand-up, theater for children and families, musical events, and special series. It is this variety that makes the Alaleona season one of the most followed cultural events in the province, capable of appealing to a broad and diverse audience.
One of the distinctive features of the program is the constant presence of leading actors and actresses from Italian theater, often with titles presented as regional exclusives. In recent years, the Montegiorgio stage has hosted performers much loved by the general public, alternating revisited classics, brilliant comedies, and new dramaturgy, balancing great tradition with contemporary languages.
Crowning the season is the event dedicated to opera, which brings soloists, choir, and orchestra to the Alaleona stage for the great titles of the repertoire. The operatic finale has become an anticipated moment, uniting the melodramatic passion of the Marche region with a focus on audience accessibility and inclusion.
The Alaleona Theater season is organized by the Municipality of Montegiorgio with the support of sponsors and local entities, and continues to be a reference cultural hub for the entire province of Fermo.
The 2025/2026 season of the Alaleona Theater in Montegiorgio was presented under the motto "Carpe diem", with a program of over thirty events curated by artistic director Gianluca Balestra. A program that confirmed the multidisciplinary vocation of the Fermo theater, intertwining national-level prose, comedy, children's theater, and the usual operatic finale.
The prose season alternated revisited classics and brilliant comedies, with numerous regional exclusives and performers highly popular with the audience. The curtain rose on December 20, 2025, and closed in the spring with a major opera title, in a crescendo that animated the historic center of Montegiorgio throughout the winter.
An opera in four acts with libretto by Temistocle Solera, the season's operatic finale and the first performance of this opera at the theater.
The Domenico Alaleona Municipal Theater is located in the historic center of Montegiorgio (FM), in the Marche region.
