The multidisciplinary festival bringing culture to the outskirts of Bari
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
A-Riva Festival is one of the most original summer events in Bari, in the heart of Puglia: instead of concentrating events in the city centre, it chooses to enliven the outskirts and the city's seaside districts. Waterfronts, historic villas, community spaces, and auditoriums become hubs for meetings, music, and performance for weeks, with the aim of bringing culture back to territories often considered marginal and making them the protagonists.
The event is promoted by the Bass Culture association as part of the public call "Le due Bari" by the Municipality of Bari, with the support of the Directorate General for Entertainment of the Ministry of Culture. The name itself, "A-Riva", plays on the double meaning of "arriving" and being "at the shore" (a riva), near the sea that defines the San Girolamo and Santo Spirito districts.
The program is multidisciplinary by nature: concerts by established artists and emerging talents, theatrical shows, hybrid performances blending music and visual arts, and above all, many free workshops designed to directly involve local residents, from children to adults. Over the years, the festival has hosted prominent names from the Italian scene, ranging from singer-songwriters to Salento folk music, and from electronic to jazz.
More than just a series of shows, A-Riva is a cultural and social project: it involves local associations, schools, and citizens of Bari's peripheral districts, building a program that enhances public spaces and creates opportunities for participation. Each edition spans the summer, typically between July and August, turning Bari's evenings into moments of community under the stars.
Events take place in various peripheral districts of Bari (Province of Bari, Puglia): the San Girolamo waterfront, Villa Longo de Bellis in Santo Spirito, the Auditorium Vallisa, and other community spaces throughout the city.
Bari is accessible by train (Bari Centrale station), by plane (Bari-Palese "Karol Wojtyła" Airport), and by car via the A14 motorway. The individual event locations are served by AMTAB urban bus lines.
All events are free of charge. For some activities and workshops, booking may be required, usually through the official channels of the Bass Culture association.
