The charity bocce evening in Morsasco for the Gaslini Hospital
A Night of Champions is the opening event of the season for the Bocciofila Morsaschese, the sports association that has long enlivened the life of Morsasco, a hillside village in the Province of Alessandria, in Lower Piedmont, just a stone's throw from the Ovadese area and the Ligurian border. Originally conceived as a charity exhibition, the event has become a highly anticipated date that fills the club's courts at the start of summer.
The heart of the evening is an exhibition featuring champions from Piedmont and Liguria, who compete under the lights alongside the territory's rising young talents. This is one of the most beloved features of the event: seeing the big names of bocce play side-by-side with the kids from the local bocce school, a passing of the torch between generations that perfectly captures the spirit of a small village club.
The evening kicks off in the late afternoon with the bocce school dedicated to children: under the guidance of expert instructors, the youngest players learn the fundamentals of this traditional discipline, often coinciding with the end of the school year. It is a way to introduce the new generation to a sport that holds deep roots in Morsasco and throughout the Alessandria area.
As per the tradition of Lower Piedmont and neighboring Liguria, the dinner featuring farinataโthe thin chickpea pancake baked in a wood-fired ovenโis a must. It is the convivial moment that bridges the sporting side with the festivities, gathering around the club's tables while waiting for the evening exhibition.
What makes A Night of Champions special is its charitable purpose: all proceeds from the evening are donated to the Gaslini Pediatric Hospital in Genoa, a healthcare center of excellence for the entire North-West. Playing bocce, dining together, and supporting research and care for children: this is the formula that has made the Morsasco event much more than just a simple sporting occasion for several editions now.
Visiting Morsasco for the evening is also a great opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Piedmont, dominated by its medieval castle and surrounded by the vineyards of the Monferrato and Alto Monferrato regions. It is the perfect setting for those seeking genuine events, far from the major tourist circuits.
The 2026 edition, the fifth, opened the Bocciofila Morsaschese season as per tradition, confirming the formula that combines sport, conviviality, and solidarity in favor of the Gaslini Pediatric Hospital in Genoa.
