The Olympics in 76 shots, from Athens 1896 to Paris 2024, in the year of Milan-Cortina 2026
In the municipality of Cesano Maderno (Province of Monza and Brianza, Lombardy), the Paolo and Davide Disarò Auditorium, housed in the ancient Church of Santo Stefano, hosts the photographic exhibition "129 Years of Games". The exhibition is part of the climate of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, whose spirit Cesano Maderno wishes to celebrate through great sports photography.
The author of the shots is Giancarlo Colombo, an established international sports photojournalist who has documented ten editions of the Summer Olympic Games since 1988. The exhibition features 76 photographs that retrace Olympic history from Athens 1896 to Paris 2024, showing the evolution of the Games and the moments that have marked their legend.
Particular attention is paid to the recent achievements of Italian sport, from the gold medals of Marcell Jacobs in the 100 meters and Gianmarco Tamberi in the high jump at Tokyo 2020, to the successes in Paris 2024. The exhibition, which has received the patronage of the Italian National Olympic Committee, is a tribute to the icons and unforgettable moments of sport, and a way for Cesano Maderno to feel the Olympic atmosphere in the year of Milan-Cortina.
More than just an exhibition, "129 Years of Games" is a journey into the collective memory of world sport. Each shot captures a decisive moment — a finish line crossed, a jump, a hug, a tear — conveying the emotion that Olympic competitions have been able to evoke for over a century. Giancarlo Colombo's work, a direct witness to ten editions of the Games, allows visitors to retrace the evolution of sport and society through the eyes of those who experienced those moments behind the lens. For Cesano Maderno, in the year of Milan-Cortina, it is a way to feel part of the great Olympic celebration.
