The world's most beautiful race passes through the walled city
Born in 1927, the 1000 Miglia is the most famous regularity race for historic cars in the world, earning Enzo Ferrari's description as 'the world's most beautiful race'. Every year, over 400 vintage cars, selected from models that participated in the original editions between 1927 and 1957, retrace Italy's routes, passing through art cities, mountain passes, and UNESCO World Heritage sites.
In the 2026 edition, scheduled from June 9 to 13, the convoy passes through Cittadella on June 9, during the first leg from Brescia to Padua. After passing through Carmignano di Brenta, the historic cars parade along the streets of the walled city before continuing towards Piombino Dese. Traffic will be closed during the passage to ensure the safety of the cars.
Cittadella, in the province of Padua, was founded in 1220 by the Municipality of Padua as a defensive military outpost. The city still preserves its original original city walls today, approximately 1,500 meters long, with a characteristic elliptical shape and punctuated by 32 towers: one of the finest examples of medieval military architecture in Europe. The passage of vintage cars between these walls offers a captivating encounter between automotive history and medieval heritage.
Watching the 1000 Miglia pass is a free experience open to everyone: car enthusiasts, families, and curious onlookers can admire the legendary cars that have made automotive history from the roadside. For Cittadella, the race's transit is an opportunity for national recognition that enhances the historic center and its walls.
