Edition 2025 — Watermelon Festival

In 2025, the Melpignano Watermelon Festival was held on July 21st, as part of the celebrations in honor of Saint Mary Magdalene, observed from July 21st to 23rd alongside Saint George the Martyr. The evening combined the religious procession, brass band concerts, fireworks, and the traditional free distribution of fresh watermelon in the historic center's squares, attracting residents and tourists vacationing in Salento.

The 2025 edition of the Watermelon Festival took place in Melpignano on July 21st, on the eve of the patronal feast of Saint Mary Magdalene. The festivities, held from July 21st to 23rd, alternated between moments of devotion and civil events: the evening procession with the statues of the Saint and Saint George the Martyr, concerts by guest bands, illuminations in Piazza San Giorgio, and fireworks. The delicious heart of the evening on the 21st was, as always, the free distribution of watermelon slices by the festival committee in a crowded and festive square. A simple and heartfelt event, capable of uniting popular faith, music, and conviviality in the village of Grecìa Salentina.
