Vintage car rally through the villages and castles of the Macerata area
Andar per Borghi e Castelli is much more than a simple vintage car rally: it is a different way to experience historic motoring, understood as a tool for memory and an opportunity to promote and showcase the small but precious villages of the Marche region. The event is conceived and organized by CAEM / Lodovico Scarfiotti, a historic club based in Montecassiano, and is part of the cultural and tourism calendar linked to the 50th anniversary of the club's foundation.
On Sunday, May 24, 2026, the third edition chose Esanatoglia as its main destination. This charming village of about two thousand inhabitants is nestled at the foot of the Apennines, in the heart of the Province of Macerata, and is listed among the most beautiful villages in Italy. The convoy, consisting of over forty crews, departed in two groups: one from the Montecassiano headquarters, passing through San Severino Marche and Matelica, and the other from the Fabriano area, travelling via San Michele and Collamato, before reuniting in the Marche village.
Esanatoglia hosted a parade of fascinating cars: Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Jaguar, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Fiat, Autobianchi, Volkswagen, Sunbeam, and other models that have made automotive history. Participants visited the historic centre, starting from the Sant'Andrea Gate, passing through the narrow streets to the Town Hall (the ancient Palazzo dei Da Varano), and admiring churches, the Palazzo della Milizia e del Pretorio, and a 14th-century public fountain.
The visitors were accompanied by Mayor Luigi Nazzareno Bartocci and Pro Loco President Gioia Senesi, who shared the local history and traditions. The day concluded in the hamlet of Palazzo, at the medieval Malcavalca Castle, which houses PalazzoLab, a venue for dining, hospitality, and an auditorium.
Lunch was held at the Ristorante Vanilà , a restaurant that supports an inclusive project for young people with intellectual disabilities involved in service management. Andar per Borghi e Castelli thus combines cultural tourism, heritage enhancement, and social commitment, in a union that perfectly represents the spirit of CAEM / Lodovico Scarfiotti.

Esanatoglia can be reached by car via the SS256 Muccese road; the nearest motorway exits are on the A14 (Ancona Nord exit), connected to the hinterland via the SS76. The nearest train station is Matelica, on the Civitanova Marche–Albacina line.
The rally is reserved for crews registered through CAEM / Lodovico Scarfiotti; guided tours of the village are also open to the public. For information on registration and the schedule, it is advisable to contact the club via the official website.
Comfortable clothing is recommended for the walking tour of the historic centre, which features narrow and uphill streets. Don't miss a food and wine stop to sample the typical products of the Macerata hinterland.
