Volo del Ciuco (Donkey Flight Festival)

The 2025 edition of the Volo del Ciuco was held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, in Piazza Farinata degli Uberti in Empoli, on the eve of Corpus Domini. The guiding theme was a strong message of peace: the ancient rivalry between Empoli and San Miniato was reinterpreted as an opportunity for dialogue and friendship between the territories, reminding us how even the most heated disputes can dissolve over time.

The program included the customary historical pageant through the center, with costumed medieval performers, drummers, and representatives of the ancient districts, followed by the flight of the fake donkey from the Collegiate Church of Sant'Andrea to the square, accompanied by light shows and music. As per tradition, the donkey's name was revealed only at the moment of the flight.
