Vivicittà Matera

A race that carries a message

Vivicittà is not just a simple running race: it is the largest social promotion sports event in Italy, organized by UISP (Unione Italiana Sport Per Tutti - Italian Union Sport For All) and run simultaneously in dozens of cities. The common thread has always been sport as a tool for peace, rights, the environment, and Europe. In Matera, the event returns in 2026 with its 42nd edition, bringing runners and walkers to the streets of the Sassi city.

Two routes for everyone

The day features two formats: the 10 km competitive race, reserved for competitive athletes, and the 4 km fun run, open to families, children, and anyone who wants to participate. Both routes start from Via Granulari, in the PAIP area, and cross the city center streets, offering participants evocative views of the city. The start is scheduled for 9:30 AM.

Sport without borders

True to Vivicittà's international spirit, the Matera edition also welcomes international athletes: among the announced protagonists are runners from Burundi, testifying to a race that breaks down borders and unites different communities. The event is organized by UISP Matera with the support of the Municipality, and is an eagerly awaited appointment for the amateur and competitive sports world in the Province of Matera.

Running in the city of the Sassi

Participating in Vivicittà means experiencing Matera from a different perspective, running through its streets in the early morning, combining athletic commitment with shared values. An opportunity to unite well-being, social interaction, and attention to the major issues of peace and rights.
