The Ville di Fiemme Carnival

The Ville di Fiemme Carnival is the traditional Fat Thursday event in the village of Varena, the festive heart of the Ville di Fiemme municipality in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). It is one of those genuine local festivals that mark the winter season in Val di Fiemme, where masks, colors, and flavors come together in a great moment of community.

The Masked Parade

The meeting point is the Varena Fire Brigade tent, the starting point for the masked parade that winds through the village streets in the early afternoon before arriving in the main square. Children, families, and masked groups parade together, creating a cheerful and engaging procession that involves the entire village.

Entertainment, Fritters, and Music

Once in the square, the party continues with children's entertainment organized by the Gruppo Giovani Le Ville, featuring games and activities designed for the little ones. No celebration would be complete without a tasty treat: the tasting of sweet fritters prepared by the Ville di Fiemme Alpini Group, a symbolic dessert of the Trentino Carnival. In some editions, the day is accompanied by the notes of the Banda Sociale di Cavalese, adding the warmth of live music to the festivities.

A Community-Born Festival

The Ville di Fiemme Carnival is born from the commitment of local associations: from the Gruppo Giovani Le Ville to the Alpini, as well as local bands and volunteers. The municipality of Ville di Fiemme, established on January 1, 2020, through the merger of Carano, Daiano, and Varena, has just over 2,600 inhabitants and preserves the traditions of its villages intact. The event is promoted and supported by the APT Val di Fiemme e Cembra as part of the "Fiemme in maschera" program.

Free and child-friendly, the Ville di Fiemme Carnival is the ideal opportunity to experience the authentic atmosphere of Fat Thursday in the mountains, amidst parades, homemade masks, and the scent of freshly fried fritters. A small but significant event that reflects the identity of a Val di Fiemme village and its community spirit.
