Edition 2025 — Vertical Transhumance

In 2025, the Vertical Transhumance once again brought Arsita to life with its experiential hike toward the high pastures of the Gran Sasso. On a typical Sunday in late June, walkers and families became shepherds for a day, following the flock from the village to the pastures, enjoying the 'sdijuno', a shepherd's lunch, and the rites of Abruzzese pastoral culture, under the guidance of the Pro Loco of Arsita and Masserie del Parco.

The 2025 edition of the Vertical Transhumance confirmed the formula that makes this Arsita (TE) event unique, in the heart of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park. Starting at dawn from the Belvedere, the ascent with the flock toward the high-altitude pastures, the 'sdijuno' breakfast along the way, and the shepherd's lunch with traditional dishes: pallotte cacio e ov, chitarra alla bacucchese, and coatto. The day, accompanied by the songs and sounds of pastoral tradition, concluded with the pastoral art workshop. Organized by the Pro Loco of Arsita and Masserie del Parco with the patronage of the Municipality of Arsita, it reaffirmed the identity value of transhumance for the Abruzzese community.
