Vernio Polenta Festival

The 447th edition of the Vernio Polenta Festival was held on Sunday, March 9, 2025, the first Sunday of Lent. The edition featured Grand Duke Cosimo I de' Medici as its symbolic figure. On Friday, March 7, in the council chamber, the President of the Tuscany Region, Eugenio Giani, presented the volume Cosimo I de' Medici, the Father of Modern Tuscany, an occasion during which the new costume of the Society of Misery - Conti Bardi Historical Group dedicated to the Medici character and his wife Eleonora of Toledo was unveiled. On Sunday, the historical pageant departed at 9:30 AM towards San Quirico di Vernio, with the reading of the parchment at noon in the town square by Mayor Maria Lucarini and the President of the Society of Misery, Piero Sarti, followed by the distribution of sweet chestnut polenta, herring, and salt cod.
