Edition 2025 — Verghiane
The 2025 edition of the Verghiane Festival brought a rich calendar of performances inspired by Giovanni Verga to Vizzini, spread across August and September in the historic centre and the Cunziria district. Titles included 'Cavalleria Rusticana' in prose and music, 'Rosso Malpelo. A Verist Nocturne', 'Silver over the scorched stubble' with Guia Jelo, and 'A simple heart named Nedda', in addition to evening performances at the Cunziria with 'Jeli the Shepherd' and 'The She-Wolf'.
Verghiane 2025
The 2025 edition confirmed the revival theatre formula in the Verga-inspired locations of Vizzini, with free admission performances between August and September.
- Early August — Cavalleria Rusticana, in the prose and music version.
- 21 August — Rosso Malpelo. A Verist Nocturne, in Piazza Umberto I, with Marilena Trovato (vocals), monologues by Dario Meli, and piano and violin accompaniment.
- 22 August — Silver over the scorched stubble, by the Teatro Mobile company of Catania, with Guia Jelo performing excerpts from Storia di una capinera, Cavalleria rusticana, I Malavoglia, Mastro-don Gesualdo, and La Lupa.
- 30 August — A simple heart named Nedda, directed by Chiaraluce Fiorito.
- September, at the Cunziria — evening performances of Jeli the Shepherd and The She-Wolf, in the old tannery district.
The performances were held in Piazza Umberto I and other iconic locations in the town, organised by the Municipality of Vizzini, confirming the festival as one of the most long-standing and identity-defining events in Sicily.
