A musical reading on post-war Italy for Republic Day
In the municipality of Mombaruzzo, in the heart of the Asti Monferrato, in the province of Asti and south-eastern Piedmont, "Vedrai com'è bello… voices, roads, songs" takes the stage, a musical reading dedicated to post-war Italy and the economic boom. The event is part of the Republic Day celebrations on June 2nd and brings to the stage the history of Italians through the words and songs that defined an era.
The show takes spectators on a journey through the twenty years that, starting from the end of the dictatorship and the war, transformed a predominantly agricultural Italy—exhausted yet full of hope—into an industrial country. The narrative explores the dreams and passions of that season, daily struggles, emigration, work, and the arrival of new consumer habits, capturing the atmosphere of an era of profound contradictions and great transformations.
The live soundtrack weaves together period songs, from Sanremo hits to the early influences of American music, up to the experiments that would give birth to the Italian singer-songwriter tradition, alternating musical moments, readings, and testimonials.
The reading is performed by a trio that combines a narrator and live music:
The initiative is promoted by ISRAT, the Institute for the History of the Resistance and Contemporary Society in the province of Asti, in collaboration with the municipalities of Cantarana, Costigliole d'Asti, and Mombaruzzo, and the Regional Council of Piedmont. The evening in Mombaruzzo concludes a short series of performances that, around June 2nd, visited various towns in the Asti area, reaffirming the bond between historical memory, music, and local identity.
Designed for a wide audience, the show combines the educational value of historical storytelling with the pleasure of musical listening, in a format that has made ISRAT's readings a popular event throughout the province of Asti. Admission is free, subject to availability at the Salone della SOMS.
