Varette Procession and Via Crucis

The 2025 edition of the Varette procession confirmed the strength of the Good Friday tradition in San Filippo del Mela. In the evening, the small floats depicting the episodes of the Passion were carried on shoulders through the streets of the historic center, accompanied by the town's Via Crucis and the prayers of the faithful.

As is customary, the procession featured the meeting between the Addolorata and the Ecce Homo and the participation of the babbaluci, the hooded penitents who recall the ancient brotherhoods. The rite was part of the week of Passion celebrations that the village near Messina experiences with great popular involvement.
