Vampe di Santa Caterina

The 2025 edition of the Vampe di Santa Caterina took place on the evening of November 24th, 2025, in Santa Caterina Villarmosa (Caltanissetta), renewing one of the most deep-rooted fire traditions of the Nissena region.

As is customary, local youths divided by neighborhood lit the great bonfires in honor of the patron saint, after weeks spent gathering wood, straw, and reeds. The evening featured the traditional challenge between districts to see who could build the largest fire and the customary leap over the flames, accompanied by lit torches and the cry "Viva li vampi di Santa Caterina!", in an atmosphere of celebration and strong community identity.
