About Valmontone Jazz

The Valmontone Jazz Festival brings world-class jazz to the 17th-century halls of Palazzo Doria Pamphilj, in the heart of Valmontone. Born from the Cultural Hub project promoted by DiSCo Lazio and the local municipality, the festival blends high-profile concerts—ranging from contemporary jazz to tributes to Ennio Morricone—with local wine tastings. A free-admission event that unites quality music, historical heritage, and the flavors of the Colli Prenestini, less than an hour from Rome.

Jazz enters the palace

The Valmontone Jazz Festival is the premier jazz event in Valmontone, a town in the Lazio region nestled at the foot of the Colli Prenestini, along the historic Via Casilina. Its setting is exceptional: the monumental halls of Palazzo Doria Pamphilj, an imposing 17th-century residence commissioned by Camillo Pamphilj that dominates the historic center from Piazza Umberto Pilozzi. Amidst Baroque frescoes and rooms steeped in history, the festival offers evenings where live music engages in a dialogue with the city's artistic heritage.

The format: two concerts and a tasting

The festival follows a well-established format: each evening features two concerts, one in the early evening and one after dinner, separated by a tasting of local wines that turns the intermission into a convivial experience. Admission is free with mandatory reservation for each concert, a choice that makes the festival accessible to everyone and has contributed to its rapid popularity among the local public.

Artists on stage

The program prioritizes high-quality ensembles from the Italian and international jazz scenes. The 2025 edition featured:

  • the Antonio Flinta Quartet, a pianist and composer of Chilean origin with a refined language blending contemporary jazz and South American influences;
  • More Morricone, a tribute to Ennio Morricone by pianist Giovanni Ceccarelli and double bassist Ferruccio Spinetti, reinterpreting famous soundtracks in a jazz key;
  • the Aria project, dedicated to new jazz sounds;
  • the Giulia Lorenzoni Quartet, a vocalist who spans from American standards by Porter, Ellington, Gershwin, and Monk to original compositions blending jazz, soul, and Brazilian atmospheres.

A project of the Valmontone Cultural Hub

The festival was born within the Valmontone Cultural Hub, part of the "Cultural Hubs – Sociality and Work" project promoted by DiSCo Lazio (the regional agency for the right to study) in collaboration with the Municipality of Valmontone and co-funded by the European Union. The goal is to make Palazzo Doria Pamphilj—which also houses the municipal library, the House of Music, and the archaeological museum—a vibrant center of cultural production, capable of narrating the territory through art.

Valmontone, between history and the Colli Prenestini

Located in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, on the border between the Castelli Romani and the Ciociaria, Valmontone is known today by many for its shopping and entertainment district, but it guards a historic center of great interest, with the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Maggiore next to Palazzo Doria Pamphilj. The jazz festival is one of the elements through which the city and the Lazio Region enhance this heritage, offering one more reason to discover the village in spring, when evenings at the palace are accompanied by the wines and products of the Colli Prenestini.

An event to follow

After the 2025 edition, which confirmed the public's interest despite a postponement from April to May, the Valmontone Jazz Festival is poised to become a permanent fixture in the cultural calendar of southern Lazio. For dates and programs of future editions, it is advisable to follow the channels of the Municipality of Valmontone and the Cultural Hub.
