UniON Inaugural Concert — National University Orchestra

UniON's Debut in Pavia

The inaugural concert of UniON marks the birth of the first Italian National University Orchestra and takes place at the prestigious Fraschini Theatre in Pavia, at the heart of Lombardy's musical tradition and province. The orchestra brings together students, recent graduates, and employees from universities across Italy, in a project aimed at promoting young talent.

An Orchestra Designed for Young Musicians

UniON was conceived by Gianluca Scandola, a violinist with the Teatro alla Scala, in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo. The goal is to provide continuity for those with musical training who risk interrupting it upon entering university. The orchestra offers over seventy musicians under 25, from all over Italy, the opportunity to play together at a high level.

The Debut Program

The concert is conducted by Nicolò Jacopo Suppa and features violinist Giuseppe Gibboni, winner of the 2021 Paganini Prize, as the soloist. The program includes the Overture from Rossini's The Barber of Seville, Paganini's Violin Concerto No. 2 Op. 7, and Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World": a journey that combines violin virtuosity with the great symphonic repertoire.
