UNICA – Holy Week in San Vito dei Normanni

The 2025 Holy Week in San Vito dei Normanni took place during the central days of the Easter Triduum, with Good Friday on April 18 and Holy Saturday on April 19. As per centuries-old tradition, the Basilica of Santa Maria della Vittoria hosted the rites dedicated to the burial of Christ and the sorrow of the Virgin Mary.

On Good Friday, the rites of La Desolata, featuring music by Antonio Pecoraro, La Chiamata of Our Lady of Sorrows, and the Procession of the Mysteries along the ancient walls were followed by the Burial. On the night of Holy Saturday, La Gloria celebrated the Resurrection with the falling of the veil over the Risen Christ and the sound of the "trènala". These rites formed the foundation that the Pro Loco Porta del Salento would bring together under the UNICA project starting in 2026.
