U Scuontru - Easter in Pettineo

On Sunday, April 20, 2025, Easter Day, the main square of Pettineo (ME) once again hosted "u scuontru", the Easter encounter between the statues of the Madonna and the Risen Christ. The processions of the two statues, carried on shoulders through the streets of the Nebrodi village, converged in the square until the climactic moment of the meeting between the Mother and her risen Son.

The event, greeted by the applause of the citizens present, confirmed the strong roots of this religious tradition in the community of Pettineo, in the province of Messina. The 2025 performance was also documented by various videos shared online, which testify to the participation and emotional intensity of the ritual.
