Jazz that makes the city its sounding board
The Treviso Suona Jazz Festival is one of the most anticipated events of the Treviso spring. Born to bring great African-American music out of concert halls and into the city, the festival uses Treviso as an instrument to make it vibrate: concerts take place at the Sant'Artemio Auditorium, the Loggia dei Cavalieri, Santa Caterina, and in numerous courtyards and venues in the historic center.
Alongside the main concerts, the program offers workshops, exhibitions, film screenings, and Jazz & Food events, which blend music and conviviality in the city's venues. Special attention is given to training, with the Jazz Workshop Orchestra involving emerging musicians under the guidance of top-level instructors.
Artistically directed by Nicola Bortolanza and organized by Urbano Contemporaneo ETS, the festival has carved out a specific niche in the jazz scene of Veneto and the Northeast. Its ability to alternate internationally renowned names with experimental proposals makes it a reference point for both enthusiasts and those approaching jazz for the first time, right in the heart of Treviso.
The twelfth edition of the Treviso Suona Jazz Festival is titled 'Sound Waves, in the Wake of Miles' and is entirely dedicated to the centenary of Miles Davis's birth. Directed by Nicola Bortolanza for Urbano Contemporaneo ETS, the festival opens with a preview on Thursday, April 30th, on the occasion of International Jazz Day, and continues from May 23rd to 31st in the city's symbolic locations.
The program alternates great soloists, projects dedicated to Davis's legacy, live accompaniments to cinema, and training moments, confirming the widespread format that characterizes the Treviso event.
Among the announced artists are also Fabrizio Bosso and Javier Girotto. The complete program, including Jazz & Food events in courtyards and venues in the center, is available on the official website.
The festival venues are in the historic center of Treviso, reachable on foot from Treviso Centrale station. The Sant'Artemio Auditorium is located at Via Cal di Breda, accessible by car and public transport.
Tickets for the main concerts are on sale on Vivaticket; many events spread throughout the city are free admission.
